For three generations (80 years), we have operated a cow-calf ranch in the Driftless Region of Wisconsin. December 11, 2023 saw a BIG change here at DHR. We sold the last of our brood cows and are changing the livestock on the ranch to yearling “stockers” which we will purchase in the late winter/early spring of 2024 and sell in the fall. These animals will be grazing our pastures during the grass season. We plan to get our numbers up to the 1200 range.
Our ranch is a many faceted enterprise. During the growing season, much of our crop land will be rented out which is a major change in 2024. We will continue to raise quarter horses to assist in managing our stocker herd. 2024 brings new opportunities to diversify.
We will continue to raise ranch-bred and trained quarter horses, raise and market organic garlic and related products, and offer two guest stay lodging homes to the public.
Our secluded Airbnb and VRBO vacation stay homes are both located on the historic Devil’s Hole Ranch. They are available for a day, a weekend, several days, a week or by the month! Paula has managed both since 2020 and is a Super Host on both vacation home rental platforms.
